Privacy
Short version: GUSTON has no user accounts, no ads, and does not sell data. We use Google Analytics to count visits.
What we collect
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which features people use and which beaches get the most attention. GA4 sets cookies named _ga and _ga_* and sends Google your IP address (truncated before storage in reports), the pages you view, and basic device info (browser, screen size, language). We do not collect your name, email, or any data that directly identifies you.
Why
Aggregate visit numbers help us decide which spots, sports, and features to prioritize. That is the entire reason analytics is on.
How long is data kept
GA4 retains event-level data for up to 14 months. After that, only aggregate reports remain.
How to opt out
You can disable Google Analytics tracking by installing Google’s official opt-out browser add-on. Most tracker blockers (uBlock Origin, Brave Shields, Firefox’s strict tracking protection) also block GA4 by default.
Third parties
Aside from Google Analytics, this page embeds content from the data providers credited in the footer of the homepage (IMS, Holfuy, WindGuru, MSW, wind.co.il, Open-Meteo, Windy). Each of those services has its own privacy policy and may set its own cookies when their content loads.
Source code
GUSTON is open source. You can read every line that runs on this page at github.com/thepixelabs/guston.
